Our former coping strategies fall into dis-use. As the learned dis-use of coping strategies progresses our ability to regulate our emotions becomes increasingly dependent on the substances we abuse. Having a clear understanding of how the mind generates emotions facilitates the development of more effective methods of emotional regulation. This video describes the mechanism and origin of consciousness, desire, and emotion. The basis of cognitive behavioral therapy and how learning to use more effective ideals, beliefs, and internal language results in less misery and more joy is reviewed.
